I went for so many years accepting the premise of Jesus' death being a payment, never questioning. I really enjoyed this post and enjoy having my eyes opened to truth. Thanks, Martin.
It is a very pervasive idea that is tacked onto many scriptures that are taken out of context in order to prove it.
I don't think I have it all clear or logically laid out by any means, but need to read every scripture in context and this helps me to see exactly what is being said in scripture.
Really appreciate your comment, not many people bother to comment but a lot seem to read what I have written.
It wasn't until about ten years ago that I began to read a lot about Scripture outside of the type of churches I had gone to and wondered how I missed so many things. I love to learn and appreciate this. I don't have many comments on mine either but I love to comment and discuss. Thanks, Martin!
Thanks Linda, it certainly takes a lot of reading and searching,
we are told "and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." This is the first commandment. (Mark 12:30)
God doesn't expect a half-hearted attempt to love him!
Similarly proverbs 2:1-10 tells us we need to seek and ask and cry out for wisdom.
There is a lot to do, but you have done a lot already in overcoming the difficulties in your life, God will help you now, and will guide you into all knowledge and will not test you beyond what you are able to tested:
You have been put to no test but such as is common to man: and God is true, who will not let any test come on you which you are not able to undergo; but he will make with the test a way out of it, so that you may be able to go through it.
(1Cor 10:13)
Keep thinking, praying and being patient, and keep encouraging others also, for in this way we show the love of God to them.
And thank you for choosing to listen, even though we don't agree on all things we do appreciate the opportunity to communicate and think about what others are saying.
For we know in part and we prophesy (teach) in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Thank you for speaking Heavenly fathers truths in love!
