This is the Eleventh post in the series from Chapter 5 of Friends With God: God’s Called Out Ones. In the previous post we began to examine what Christ said regarding the structure of the Church, how it is financed, and who is the leader.
Very interesting and eye opening, Martin. When I began attending church in the 1970s, there were many "evangelists" traveling around speaking and fleecing. I looked to my own leaders and they seemed to approve and think this was godly, so I didn't question it. Luckily I was poor at the time, so they didn't get a ton of money out of me. LOL
I think the trick is to remember that God allows these people to test those whom he is calling to teach them to be a bit savvy regarding what others teach us. As Jesus said "
Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues; And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.
(Mat 10:16-18)
We need to learn to be as wise as serpents, and as harmless as doves, not the other way around!
