No I don't believe that direct guidance is more important than words written and inspired by God.
We are told to test the Spirits, for not all are from God:
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but try the spirits to see if they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. (1John 4:1)
There were plenty of written scriptures at the time of Jesus, which were written down that we may read them and have hope in God:
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, so that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. (Rom 15:4)
Jesus quoted from scripture all the time, the phrase "it is written" is used 69 times in the New Testament, about half of which are in the four Gospels with Jesus quoting from the Old Testament.
The scrolls of the Old Testament were always read every Sabbath in the Synagogues, as Jesus read from them in Nazareth in Luke 4:16
The written words are those that God inspired, whereas the Pharisees quoted from what other people had taught them or what they dreamed up and thought was from God.
Jesus came to EMPHASISE and explain the written Law of the Old Testament, not to do away with it:
Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy but to fulfill. For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the Law until all is fulfilled. Therefore whoever shall relax one of these commandments, the least, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of Heaven. But whoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of Heaven.
(Matt 5:17-19)
If you read what Jesus said you will also see that the soul does die:
And do not fear those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. But rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. (Matt 10:28)
The soul can be destroyed by God in "hell", which I explain in my post is a metaphor for the final lake of fire:
