Just been reading proverbs 1 and 2, very pertinent to this foolish world and its meaningless ignorance of what they do:
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?

In Sydney they keep New Year on daylight savings time, which is one hour early, so it is not actually New Year at all- but hay the govt said to celebrate so why not!?!

According to a book on Babylon we have, the most important festival was New Year, when people came back to capital to worship the god Marduk who "created the world" and of the other gods.

Well aware of the historical context of Babylon & how it ties in with the 'mother' Roman catholic church and then all her protestant daughters Martin. Is that book called the two Babylon's by Ian Hislop at all? Read that many years ago.
Just saw the title of the book you put at the end: Mesopotamia the invention of the city by Gwendolyn Leick. Thank you. What you call 'our modern customs' have never been mine Martin. I was brought up from birth knowing about the lies of all these things. That was why I stupidly joined a religious institution at 16 because they didn't take on board any of such customs. So I insanely thought they must be the only people practicing the truths of Almighty Creator God. Of course they certainly were not & thankfully heavenly father let me see them for what they were and how they hid child sexual abuse on a huge scale and thankfully left in my late twenties! Then Heavenly father & Jesus would not leave me alone & kept drawing me back to them, then Jesus personally revealed Himself to me & literally opened my eyes even more to all the truths of satans system, & told me there were only two paths in this realm dimension and life and I had to choose either the Broadway to destruction separation death & hell or the narrow path that is very hard to life abiding in Him as the vine & then he let me to receive supernatural holy Spirit rebirth and that helped me understand how it's totally possible to be given the power in the Living Christ Jesus to walk a sanctified holy life and die to self and the old man. To me this was such a secret that I had not heard one single Christian ever speak of or talk about. I mostly heard from Christians you will always give in to sinning that you can never overcome temptations you will always be sinning till the die you doi that transformation is in now way possible. Which we know is all a complete and utter lie from the very devil himself! And is the antichrist gospel.

It all gets a bit spooky when you realize that it is all talking about demons and Satan, but the reality is most probably way beyond what we can imagine, certainly beyond what I want to imagine.
Better to focus on Philippians 4:8, truth, honesty, justice etc. while being aware of the reality of the evil spirit world, as Christ and the Apostles certainly were, and had power over them too.
Jesus explained it very simply that Heavenly father is looking for worshippers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth, and the intimate devoted absolute passionate sole pursuit of Almighty Creator God and finding great joy & delight in Him alone. Yet so few truly have the heart for that & for Him in that way. And in doing all He asks the fullness of all not picking and choosing. Such as loving our enemies & pursuing peace is so incredibly imperative especially what is unfolding and coming.
